A Global Community & Resource Centre for Sustainable Business
I was inspired by a conversation I joined on LinkedIn, earlier this week.
The title of the discussion was 'Curing the Disengaged Workforce Epidemic' - it resonated with me on a number of levels, both personally and professionally.
The main article, providing the foundation for the discussion, pointed to how brands could and should create the opportunity to re-engage the workforce, to enable them to achieve their real potential, and enhance business performance, too.
While I feel the real 'cure' goes way beyond brands, there are strategic and systemic levers to pull as well, the central message was spot on; it really is time to launch a new era for CSR - and one that puts people at the heart of sustainability and business.
Here are the thoughts I shared, on how we could create opportunity and engagement for all:
Step 1: Transform the economy - from 'waste' (in all its forms) to jobs & 'wages'.
Step 2: Then apply some joined-up-thinking on closing the skills gap, generating opportunity for the many.
Step 3: Rise to the challenge - business leaders to develop new forms of courageous leadership, fit for the challenges and opportunities in the 21st Century.
Step 4: Power to the people - engage the workforce.
Step 5: Engage with the investment community - help them to understand the new models and long-term benefits.
Step 6: Feel the benefit!
So, is it time for a new era in CSR? What do you think?
